We had a long but good flight and arrived at 3am on Wednesday morning English time in Los Angeles. The time in L A was 7pm. Derry collected us and took us to stay with her daughter in Los Angeles. The next morning we had a hearty American breakfast called "The Senior Breakfast". It is supposedly only a half of normal American helping and even though I was only 51years old I was still allowed to have it. I was glad as I still struggled to eat what was on my plate. Then we began the trip to Las Vegas in comfort.
Derry drives a kind of big 4 wheel country vehicle but not as big as most American cars. The journey took as through California and Nevada deserts and there was quite a strong wind. The Nevada desert is surprisingly high up 1500 meters above sea level. The road is very, very long and you can see for a very long time nothing but scrub desert, which has small shrubs, cactus and other plants sparingly covering the ground. Needless to say there are all sorts of other creatures living there but luckily we did not encounter any. We arrived in the early afternoon and had a light lunch.

After lunch we took off to the Strip and do a bit of shopping. In the evening Fergus cooked a lovely meal, which was enjoyed by all the family.

Ishbel was to join us on Sunday flying in to Las Vegas direct. So while we awaited her arrival we did a bit of sight seeing. We visited some of the brilliant hotel/casinos in Las Vegas and my favourite this time was the Venetian. I think that the Strip is an amazing place and well worth a visit. Like all wonderful places it has a reverse side but I chose not to see it or get involved with it.

Inside the Venetian Casino, $60 each a ride, but the gondoliers sing! ---->

Just outside Vegas to the West is "Red Rock Canyon" which Derry took us to see. It was wonderful and looks like reddish petrified mud pies. Red rocks everywhere and amazing groundcover over the desert, grasses cactus and all sorts of small trees and bushes.

We also visited the chocolate factory and the attached cactus garden. The factory was great to see and the chocolates were much too sweet for me, so no temptation there.

We also attended a proper show at the Paris Hotel called "We will rock you". It is a musical based on my favourite rock group "Queen". It was brilliant and we all had a good time.
