From Wanaka we went through the Lindis Pass and the Lindis Valley, this was high plateau territory and quite spectacular. We were lucky with the snow. This area had had the largest falls for 30 years. But by the time we were passing through the roads were clear.

We spent the night in Holiday Park at Omarama where we could not get fresh water or dump our dirty water because everything was frozen. Omarama had a holiday park, an hotel, a petrol station and about 5 houses.

The next morning we continued North stopping at Twizel which was a larger town, 2 streets, but it was closed. The tourist shop was open and the shop assistant seemed pleased to see humans. So we continued stopping next at the end of Lake Pukaki at the Mt. Cook Lookout. Mt.Cook/Aoraki is NZ's highest mountain (3754m/12,349ft). The view was fantastic although Mt. Cook (centre of the photo) was in cloud. Walter Mitty had his first walk on snow which to our surprise did not seem to make any difference to him.
We then drove on to have a coffee stop at Lake Tekapo. The coffee was good, the view was good and the snowman was a treat. Then onwards to Geraldine

We liked Geraldine very much and the town has a very nice feel. We saw the world’s biggest knitted pullover and it takes up an entire shop wall. At the back of the jumper shop we found the biggest mosaic. Then there was an alpaca shop and lovely restaurants and coffees. It was also the day Fergus got struck down with the flu and we stayed on another day.
