The Party
The party was simply amazing and I am sure all of you that were able to come agree with me. Firstly I would like to thank Joy Felix and Linda Reid-Lobatto for their innovation creativity and enthusiasm. Then Wendy and the boys, Simon and Chris, got heavily involved and towards the end Vita, Linda Wilson and Marianne. Thank you all so very much for creating such an incredible night, which I will never forget. Then I would also like to thank everyone that came from far and wide and it was simply incredible to see so many of you. We also received a number of wonderful presents, which in the end I did not have time to thank you all for. |

The most wonderful present was, of course, my rose quartz pendant, in a silver frame and with a wonderful message on the silver back plate. It reads: "Paths, which have crossed, will cross again … All our love, Dance Laines 2005". Thank you all so very much for such a wonderful present. I wear the pendant almost daily and I keep holding it with great joy.During this special evening so many of you shared with me what Dance Laines meant to you and I was overwhelmed with what you all had to say. By the end of the party I had a feeling that Dance Laines was more than just a school but a place where creative thinking could take place and but a place which had room for anyone who simply loves to dance no matter what they looked like or how old or young they were. I feel that we did not close Dance Laines but Dance Laines merely reinvented itself and will live on though all of you. | ||
What happens now: Sonya Pettigrew will teach the BBO Syllabus classes The end of the party was simply the beginning of something new and exciting. After we cleared the studio Sonya and I got stuck into preparing the work Sonya will have to start to teach in September. We had a wonderful time exploring the syllabus and working out what is new in each level and how to build bridges from one level to the next. Sonya was a dream to work with and I know she will do a fantastic job. Linda Reid-Lobatto has taken on the Pointe Shoe Fitting Centre My other love in life is my work with pointe shoes. Linda came to my rescue. Linda has been a very good friend and pupil. She was closely involved with my work. Linda was a medic and as a theatre nurse saw at first hand what happens to dancers' feet. She has been working with me for the last year in preparation for taking on the fitting of ballet-, demi- and pointe shoes. I am so very lucky that this part of my life has now also been taken care off. Lissa Callow Lissa Callow is also still part of the team and I know she will enjoy supporting Sonya and teaching repertoire with Judy Breen. Lissa has been an incredible support to me as well as a friend but also in my teaching, encouraging me to find new ways of exploring teaching and to re-invent myself over and over again. Judy Breen head of Hampton Ballet Academy When Judy Breen opened her own studio it made moving to New Zealand possible for us. Now our dancers have a choice of Syllabus classes with Sonya and wonderful free classes and repertoire classes with Judy. These free classes will help young dancers with auditions in the future and I know that Judy also has plans to offer contemporary dance training, making it all a much bigger experience for the future. The professional dancers that grew up at Dance Laines Finally there are some of you, who are now professional dancers, dancing with companies and have pledged your support to Sonya. It is simply fantastic to think that dancers, who grew up at Dance Laines, will come back to give guest courses. I am so grateful to all of you and look very much forward to seeing what will grow in this garden we have created between us. |
